A FABULOUS ARTIST

I just need to share with you the work of a friend of mine Marcel Fielden. Marcel is an artist who lives in Spain, he is English and moved over there with his wife and son for the good life and to pursue his creativity.
To see Marcel's work in real life is to experience wonder that a person can capture light and dark so wonderfully in his art. Totally amazing, jaw dropping to be precise.
Anyway I want to share with you the fact that Marcel knew my father in law Charlie and he was just finishing a piece when he heard that Charlie had passed away. Without hesitation he called the piece "Charlie's table" (or something close to that). My mother in law Tricia received a sympathy card from Marcel and Pam with the painting printed on the cover; I had to see this painting so I called around for my own private viewing.
I was so impressed with it and knew that it was going into the Exhibition that Marcel was having of his works in El Campello. The Exhibition started on the 4th of September... The 4th September is Tricia's birthday and I thought what a gift it would make for her. So I purchased it off Marcel, and he and Pam then said that they would put a sold sticker on it and present it to mum at the Exhibition.

I hoped that she would love it and she did, she rang me from the Exhibition hardly able to speak and now she is counting down the days to the hanging in her home, this will be after the Exhibition, so after 25th September....


This photo shows Marcel and Pam explaining to Tricia that the painting is sold and it is for her, her birthday present, as I said she could hardly talk for crying when she spoke to me to say Thank you.

Explaining how the painting is a reminder of Charlie (Dad) to Kelly - Dad loved food and dining so this picture is a perfect memorial to him.

So what have I been up to today

This morning I was determined to create "SOMETHING", I didn't want to let another day go by and go to bed wishing I had created a piece. So as the family were all out doing their thing I thought I would make a start. I have brought some canvas board with me to Spain so I applied some gesso to that and then painted over it with yellow ochre.(it actually looks beige in the picture but it is ochre, believe me). Then I stared at the canvas and decided that I would bite the bullet and try and do an image transfer. I selected an artchix www.artchixstudio.com picture to use and crossed my fingers as I applied it to the canvas. Hey ho it worked, the image transferred. I was so cock a hoop; I am still grinning as I write this lol.
Looking closely I realised that the clock and little bit of script was back to front, but hey in the scheme of things that is not so bad, at least the transfer was successful - and the piece has inadvertently named itself "If I could turn back the hands of time" - now I just have to develop it.

I also prepped a page for my journal which I am trying to develop.I have been inspired by Patty van Dorin (http://ramblingrose.typepad.com/journal/) who does such beautiful pages and Suzi blu (http://suziblu.blogspot.com/) who takes the fear out of journalling with some great tutorial videos. Another piece to develop!!!

Oh yes, whilst I was waiting for the gesso to dry etc. I created a little piece using artchix products again entitled "Mother Nature" which is at the top of the page next to the image transfer picture (must get the hang of putting pictures where I want them lol....)

This morning I am hoping to get to the merceria (haberdashers) here in EL Campello to pick out some laces, beads and ribbons such a beautiful collection is available, then I want to make a start on a matchbox advent calendar to decorate the villa at Christmas.

I am going to escape to my art room first as the rain is coming down so much, my lovely husband has gone out on his quad again, can't see him being out for too long so I shall do what I can whilst I can. I shall have a mountain of muddy clothes to wash when he gets back...boys and their toys!

Happy 40th Trudy

Well here in Spain it was time to celebrate Trudy's 40th - a milestone not to be sneezed at. Bearing in mind that I see Trudy only when I come to Spain it was difficult to know what to do for her. I started one project, was full of self doubt about whether or not she would like it, so moved on to project No. 2.

I painted a canvas in her favourtie aquamarine color and than randomly stamped swirls and other marine images faintly on to it - then I added some Tiles (donated by my mate Sam - knew they would come in handy sometime Sam!).

I gave it to her with heaps of trepidation but surprisingly she loved it; my husband was soooo disappointed that I gave it away cos he fell in love with it! Sometimes simple is best (says I ).

We went to a lovely restaurant called "La Cova" to celebrate her birthday, really nice and stunning views over the harbour in El Campello.
